SANS 10400 Ventilation Design for Local Authority Approval

Our main area of speciality is the design of South African National Standards certified ventilation systems to obtain a compliancy certificate for health and safety for our client’s developments.

Ventilation is defined as the process of replacing indoor air with outdoor air. Ventilation is needed to improve the air quality in occupied spaces. There are two methods to ventilate a space. The first is done through natural ventilation. This is done by allowing large enough openings to generate an airflow that will sustain the required level of fresh air in there specified space. Natural ventilation is achieved by using windows, doors and louvres to allow fresh air to pass into the occupied room.

The second method to ventilate a space is through mechanical ventilation. This is usually provided by fans that will draw air from outside through a filter and pump it into the room or extract the indoor air from the occupied space to the outdoors. Mechanical ventilation has the advantage of being controlled, hidden and has extra capacity to travel further distances in larger buildings.
